Why choose St. James Design Group?
Our priority is listening to our clients and developing a unique design concept that is practical, functional and represents their design aesthetic. I collaborate closely with clients to make sure the design is exactly what they are looking for.
Is there a particular area of interior design you specialize in?
We focus mainly on high quality design. Whether it’s residential or commercial, our clients are looking for something with an upscale look.
Is there a particular geographic area you serve?
We are available for projects anywhere. I am licensed in New York and Florida.
How far will you travel?
I will travel all distances to service our clients. We understand how busy our clients are and want to accommodate them, near and far.
Why do I need an Interior Designer if I already have an Architect?
Interior Designers work with details of interiors including kitchen and bath design, custom cabinetry and built-ins, color schemes, flooring specifications, and wall and window treatments. Designers can create a master plan for the interior of your entire home or office, which can be implemented in stages if necessary. We are in particular very sensitive to scale.
Architects, on the other hand, consider the design of the exterior and the general dimensions of the interior, without necessarily considering the details that the interior designer considers including placement of furnishings.
The ideal design team might consist of both an Architect and an Interior Designer in order to cover all aspects of your projects requirements.
What services do you provide?
Our services range from pre-construction detailing, which might include changing the original floor plans to hanging the very last piece of art on the wall. We specialize in the out of the ordinary. Many of our projects include space planning, lighting design, custom metalwork and furniture design. We work with licensed architects, contractors, electricians, installers, painters, etc. Sometimes it is as simple as recovering existing furnishings and selecting new paint colors and wall coverings. We call this freshening up! On the other extreme, we demolish the existing interior and design something entirely new!
Can you design using any style?
We have worked on projects ranging from contemporary to traditional. I enjoy mixing styles and periods. I am qualified to work with all types of styles and concepts so that I can provide whatever is needed. In many cases it is much more interesting to work with a client that has unusual tastes or requirements. It can be much more of a challenge. I love to think "out of the box."
How does it work – working with an interior designer?
Every project is different, but a client should always be able to openly collaborate with us to discuss preferences and project scope. We will select furniture, paints, and fabrics, create drawings and get pricing in order to present them to you to choose from. We can also orchestrate a project to coordinate the work of various licensed and insured contractors (of your choice) if needed to ensure that every element is covered.
What should I bring to the initial meeting?
It’s helpful for clients to begin by looking for examples of what they like. Printed media and Internet sites are a great way to get an idea of things you like. Any additional ideas or questions you have collected will make the initial consultation more efficient.
